Terry Young (known often as Toge) was a dedicated photo enthusiast, and freely gave many to Dem Tull to publish on a regular basis, never asking for a fee and giving freely. Sadly, he passed away in May, 2011. After conference among the heads of Dem Tull, it was decided to dedicate Dem Tull's website in his memory.
Terry Young was born on October 14th, 1958 on Pitcairn Island, the fourth and youngest child of Samuel and Vula Young. He grew up on Pitcairn, although he worked for a time in New Zealand as well. He had a wide range of interests, such as photography, amateur radio, beekeeping, electrical and engineering. He worked hard as an electrician, as well as a reliable engineer for the Pitcairn longboats, but it was photography and beekeeping which he particularly loved. He took thousands upon thousands of photographs, and now they are part of his legacy.
Of all his siblings, Terry was the only one to never marry, and when he grew older he took care of his widowed mother, who in her later years suffered from an illness which eventually claimed her life. Through all this time he took exceptional care of her, and enforced the doctors orders. Despite having no children, he was close to his siblings and their children.
When he passed away, his family grieved heavily. So too did so many others. He was fond of his website, which he had designed in 2010 and had a relative upload it from overseas. His website www.pitcairntoge.com was cancelled, but with slight modifications to the original (his shopping prices, homestay information and contact details have been removed), our website is putting it up as a part of www.demtullpitcairn.com as a tribute to a kind and generous friend and family member. Farewell, Toge, remember we all loved you!
